Yarn Hariness & Broken Filament Monitor with Data Storage

The meiners-del Memorandom is a battery operated Yarn Hairiness Monitor that is used to check the quality of the yarn whilst being produced on the machines. Similar to the HairScan but with the added features and memory storage capacity, as detailed below. The measuring head with infra red technology is used to monitor the yarn. Not only is the Memorandom ideal for spun yarn quality monitoring but also very useful for broken filament detection.

The idea of the Memorandom is to patrol the mill taking readings from many running yarn positions, this is made possible because of the vast storage capacity of the unit; up to 1000 positions can be monitored before the memory is full. Low power electronic circuitry means that the battery life between charges is greatly improved. For broken filament detection the measuring head can be positioned in a threadline and left to monitor the yarn continuously.

Either when all the measurements have been taken or the memory is full, the stored information can be viewed on the LDC display of the Memorandom, printed or downloaded to a PC using the in-built interface for data transmission. The data that is stored in the Memorandom includes the machine number, yarn position number, measurement time (seconds) and the measurement reading. The operator, via the keypad on the Memorandom enters the first three bits of data. Any position that has a measurement reading vastly different to the expected value will obviously require attention to correct the reason for an abnormal reading, whether its for hairiness of broken filament detection.

The Memorandom is supplied with a STANDARD measuring head. The standard head is defined by the position of the yarn guide in relation to the small detecting hole in front of the infra red sensor, which for the standard head is 3mm. This dimension was set many years ago by Shirley Institute for their Yarn Hairiness Meter first build in the 1960's and has been continued by meiners-del. However with the progress in yarn technology this 3mm setting is not always the best option for all yarns therefore meiners-del offer a range of heads with different dimension between the yarn guide and the detecting hole. The range goes from 1mm to 5mm and can be specified in increments of 0.1mm. For most cases the 3mm STANDARD head is best suited for spun yarns but consideration of this dimension for broken filament detection will depend upon the length of filaments you wish to detect.

It is important to specify a non-standard head requirement when ordering, give the dimension best suited to your application.
